I have never intended to own a Subaru nor any other Japanese car come to that . However I have been given one. It belonged to a friend of mine now deceased and has been garaged for the last three years. I know its an Impreza , I also know its a two litre turbo , other than that I know nowt , when I get the keys and open the garage I shall know more , do these things rot?

Firstly welcome to Midland Scoobies

Secondly. Yes they do rot ! Like all cars eventually

Dependng on the model/year and how it has been looked after will determine how much and where they rot. Mine is 15 years old and is rust free for example. But i have similar age cars that are pretty much dropping to bits !

Get some picture up as soon as you can. Also lift the bonnet and take a picture of the VIN plate. It is located on the near side turret . Post a pic and I can tell you more about the make and model of your car.

Who knows it could be a 22B :)

Cheers :thumb:

With the help of Google I am a little more educated , I think mine is a four door and it defiantly does not have a 747 landing strip on the boot lid.

Well at last things are moving , I now have the keys and paperwork , I still have to drag it out of its garage so I don't know how well its survived the last few years , then I have to defeating the Thatcham alarm , after putting a new battery on.

What I do know is the VIN number if Steve can interpret I will be much obliged. :JF1GF8KD3WG028823.

Its only taken three months but at last the car is out of the garage where it has spent over three years , it seems to have survived reasonably well , there is some rust on both rear arches and there is corrosion on the wheels. Almost everything works , the engine check light has come on , although it was not on on start up so that will need sorting , then as long as there are no nasties hiding underneath its off for a MOT.
