Club Project Car

While I was busy at work last night I found a website that specialized in Cat D/ Stolen recovered vehicles. For those of you unfamiliar it works the same as ebay, with people bidding on the cars. Each car is given a fixed starting price.

So it got me to thinking. What if a few of us got together and chipped in a small amount to buy a car that needs some time and effort? Spread the costs of parts among everyone and do what was required to get the car back to shape. Everyone could find a little time to lend a hand and those with any knowledge or experience could then share that with those of us who are mechanically retarded. The end result would be that we would have a nice car that we could sell/donate to charity/use as a club track car etc while at the same time giving people like myself an opportunity to learn hands-on simple things that will benefit me with the day to day running and repairs of my own vehicle...

The example below currently has 0 bids and an opening price of £175. As far as I can see there is no mechanical faults only bodywork issues.

Whilst this is just an idea I'm throwing around, I have given it a little thought and with such a wide range of knowledge and experience and varying amounts of available time I do think that its something that realistically we could do and achieve as a club. Who knows? Team MS Time attack????

Thats a sport model budthumbdown.gif maybe need a turbo for a track car. Did try and get something similar sorted with a few members on here around 18 mths ago, the logistics and time/work done was awkward but maybe it could work.

Maybe if people stopped focusing on what could go wrong or why it can't be done instead of instead of constructively thinking how it could be done then it might actually be possible. The reality is that as a club we don't actually do much. We stand around a car park once a month, go to a few shows and have a nice convoy, but don't really do anything that helps the members outside forum posts. The leaders don't really do much so why can't we do something amongst ourselves that benefits each other? I can't see a better way of learning than by being shown or trying for yourself. And for little outlay the returns are far more than financial.

You need the right people on board from the start. Also as local as possible to where the car is based. Think about where your gonna keep the car and do the work to it. Also need to decide what is the final goal, club car, repaired seller or track car. If the later you may need a trailer if not road legal as well.

First thing I would say do is get a team together and have a meeting re the points above, also discuss initial investment then you can decide which model to buy.
