POLICE swooped on addresses in Cheltenham and Staverton yesterday as part of a massive drugs operation.

Around 40 police officers descended on Ajec Racing, at Meteor Business Park, Staverton, as part of a national crackdown.

Dozens more officers were used to raid several locations in Cheltenham, London and Bristol in connection with what police described as a drugs supply conspiracy.

Cocaine worth hundreds of thousands of pounds was seized outside of the county as part of the operation.

Three people were arrested – including a man from Cheltenham – in connection with the supply of class A drugs, while a woman was arrested in connection with money laundering.

A Staverton resident, who did not wish to be named, said: "There was a drugs raid in Staverton at 8.30am. About 40 police officers raided Ajec Racing and they were still there at 4pm.

"I spoke to some officers and they said it was because it was under suspicion as a class A drugs hub and it was a national raid with two other places also being targeted.

"They were taking stuff in and out all day. It was quite shocking."

Ajec Racing has developed, raced and serviced BMW, Japanese and high-performance cars for 25 years.

No one from the firm was available for comment as the Echo went to press last night.

Gloucestershire police spokesman, Chris Jackson, said around 80 Gloucestershire officers were used in the raids.

He said: "Police in Cheltenham carried out search warrants in several locations in the town and Staverton in connection with a large-scale investigation into a class A drugs supply conspiracy.

"The operation was led by Gloucestershire police but search warrants were also carried out in locations in London and Bristol as part of the case.

"Suspected cocaine has been found with a value running to hundreds of thousands of pounds. Police are continuing to search the addresses involved."
