question for the 2 sparkys on here

i have an outside pir light which stays dim at night till someone passes through the sensor and then goes bright

i have wired into it 3 sofit lights which work of a transformer

so basically they are dim at the same time as the outside light and then go bright once pir is activated

is this ok

Phil, this should be ok but is dependent on several things cos could cause pir to go faulty, can the pir switch an inductive load, total load pir is capable of switching should not be exceeded and finally is the transformer dimmable. All this should be in manufacturers info that came with pir light and transformer lights. Take it you have put transformer in the dry. Hope this answers your question.

cheers Neill

you totally lost me ...lol

i dont have the instruction as i fitted the main outside light with pir about a year ago and had the 3 sofit lights kicking around the garage since we brought the house

yes the transformer is in the dry

all seems to be working for the last 2 nights

just thought i would ask as someone mentioned you couldnt reduce the 240 volts to the transformer

pmsl! I reckon you should be ok if working for the last couple of nights, transformer may be marked up as dimmable or non dimmable, if you have problems let me know you can pm me your number and we'll sort it over the phone.

ok mate , will only go bang once ..lol

think it sould be ok , more chance of my lovely wiring going bang as i had to extend all the wires between the spot lights otherwise they would of only been 40cm apart ..lol

in theory it should be ok, but you have to watch the load you are putting on the existing hi/low sensor you had fitted to the outside light.

also need to make sure you haven't extended the cables too much as this puts more load on the transformer and they tend not to like it
