Shell just took the car out and when she came back I knew there was a problem. when I popped the bonnet oil was all over the left hand part of the engine bay and the dip stick is almost dry.Just hope its not too serious. Just got to look at where best to send it now, it certainly wont be the clinic though after last time. Think Ill prob send it to Graham in hinckly If I can find his number :coolgleamA:.

thanks lee text it almost straight away.

RAc collecting it down the road from the house (seems theyve changed their policy on collections now that theyll only take it 10 miles if its outside the house) and itll be with Graham by the afternoon so well know more in the next couple of days.

Its running fine just hasnt got any oil  as the contents of the engines oil is all over the left hand side of the engine bay so it may be very bad or it might not.

have you got an oil cooler or oil catch tank fitted????

if so might just be a split pipe, dont keep running it though oil and heat dont mix. well they do but you wouldn't like the results.

i've also known this from loose oil filters, broken filler necks, missing oil cap, crank compression etc.

fingers crossed its a cheap one for you.

  • 2 weeks later...

well graham has finally with the snow and all managed to have a look today and the engine bay is such a mess that the engine is going to be coming out. Shakey yes do have an oil cooler so it might not be too bad. Ill know more tomorrow so ill keep you all posted. Does point to a hose etc as the engine wasnt making any horrid noises or behaving badly before we noticed the oil problem so fingers crossed it isnt a bottom end issue of some form etc.

Well my crossed fingers didnt do much looks like we are looking at a full re-build so looking at the options now in terms of whether to forge the existing block (assuming its ok) or going for a 2.33 CDB build. Either way Im going to be paying for this car till I retire at this rate:P

Well the block is ok, heads are ok, but due to one of the con rod sheared and piston seized in the cylinder left a build up of exhaust gases and heat which has fubared the crank. Not happy about the crank as wanted to re-use it for the 2.33 build. the crank will polish up for a normal build but as we are working towards improving the cars current numbers before the engine failure it will have to be replaced. Will probably be selling the block which fortunately has come away from it all unscathed and the current matching heads and injectors and replacing it with a strokered cdb. Will have more news as to options and which way we are going tomorrow. Cant wait for the end result but its going to be a while till we get the car back which is a pain but no pain no gain and I will be broke once this is done but who needs money anyhow :-).

"the irony of the reliability comments in your for sale ad lol :winkin:" ...........theres always one :thumb: .

On a cost side of things well.................it aint gonna be cheap but we are taking the opportunity to get it to where we want it which should mean it will be a heck of a lot quicker than it was before it went bang so we will be spending more than if we just replaced the internals etc. Wont be a 10k build but neither will it be a 2k build.

Once I know which way we are going I'll post up etc. Biggest hassle is being without the car till early next year as its shells daily driver.

well we now have a build spec in mind which having got permission off of the boss is a green for go. I did have to perform first aid as she first exploded with "HOW MUCH"...."I could buy another evo with that!" then fainted, but at least its happening.

Only fly in the ointment is wont be able to afford to replace the 20g straight away so will probably be limited to 470/470 ish with the current turbo till I can save up for a replacement possibly a clinic turbo but that'll be next year. The car should be good for 600 with the right turbo but looking at dual maps of the current 380/400 and then with the right turbo 520/520.

Will finally have launch, als and full throttle gear change as well and will be able to join the usual suspects on the strip next year if all goes to plan.

Really cant wait now although wont get the car back till Jan and then its got to be run in.

Gutted the internals failed on the last engine but every cloud has a silver lining even if it does mean I really am broke and will be keeping the scoob till im 70 :hurray:

Will be selling the current heads which are in good nick and are machined ready to fit an ej257 in the new year plus a few other bits which will at least of set the cost of things a little bit .

So my Christmas and Birthday present this year is deffo having a new car for Jan. :winkin:

Well a few events in the last couple of days with regards to work it is with a heavy heart I have to announce a massive u-turn the car will be being broken. As soon as I can Ill be listing all the parts (of which there is a lot) most of which will be available in the new year. Its sad for the scoob to go to the scrapyard in the sky but that's life. This does mean the end of the road for us in terms of scooby ownership. Its had its ups and downs mainly ups 3 scoobs later and I'm privaledged to have been part of the original MS members and to have seen it grow to what it is now.

Not sure whats next but for at least the next few years it wont be a scoob.
